Is there any research done in this field? Because this is the typical response of high achievers working in an underperforming environment. It has nothing to do with toxicity. Changing the environment, adding equally qualified peers, and organizing work the way talent can show up will do a miracle. These are the people you want on your team.

Toxic people actively blame others and elaborately sabotage the collective effort. They have pleasure from it. In many cases, they do not realize they are toxic and nobody is willing to give them feedback. Often just because people used to be conflict aversive, which is bad precisely in this situation. I am not a psychologist nor a therapist to understand how to turn around such a person. And in what setup so they are isolated enough not to poison the rest? If they possess the rare skill we need, then there are not many options than to keep them on board.
