How do you know the result is adequate in your setup? I was working for an org, where after covid they were used to extensive homeoffice. I was surprised with low performance but they were satisfied and ok with it, with an exception of the owner who felt strong financial issues. We have created a new team, fully onsite, no homeoffice. Surprise, this new team was more than 100% more productive. Remote work is not for everyone. In GitLab they carefully select people for it. Half of the people are unable to control themselves, any project manager can tell. Knowledge work is very much about spontaneous collaboration. Remote asynchronous work expect work can be atomized. How people deal with innovations and new ideas in remote? How do they socialize with people in organization beyond their team? 8 hours is a benchmark to how much one work, productive activity.
